Siemens announced that it has been named a Leader in the IDC MarketScape: Worldwide Industrial IoT Platforms and Applications in Manufacturing 2021 Vendor Assessment. The IDC MarketScape report provides an in-depth market assessment of vendors participating in the industrial IoT platforms and applications space. Siemens was one of 9 vendors evaluated and assessed on a wide-ranging set of criteria, including the robustness of the offering including IoT applications, edge application frameworks and runtimes, advanced analytics including ML/AI and the company’s go-to-market approach.
The report highlighted Siemens’ strengths, stating that “Siemens has over 170 years of operational experience to draw from when building out industrial IoT solutions.” Praising Siemens’ Digital Twin strategy, the report commented, “Digital twins are an important innovation area for Siemens' long-term R&D goals. Siemens offers product, production, and performance digital twins to optimize decision making throughout the asset life cycle.”
"By providing industrial companies with a common way to access, manage, and visualize IoT data, as well as build and deploy IoT applications, industrial IoT platforms play a key role in supporting the goals of manufacturing organizations today," says Stacy Crook, research VP, IoT, IDC. "Our assessment showed that in addition to Siemens’ own operational process experience, the company also has a significant ecosystem of manufacturing customers that can be utilized for knowledge exchange. This is backed up by references who stated how they rely on the MindSphere ecosystem to continually learn and innovate.”
MindSphere®, the industrial IoT as a service solution from Siemens, was developed by Siemens for applications in the context of the Internet of Things. MindSphere stores operational data and makes it accessible through digital applications to allow industrial customers to make decisions based on valuable information.
“Siemens’ Industrial IoT with MindSphere has been instrumental in the transformation of our manufacturing customers’ operations, improving the stability and consistency of product quality and reduced costs by avoiding unplanned downtimes,” said Ray Kok, Senior Vice President of Cloud Application Services for Siemens Digital Industries Software. “From small and medium businesses to large enterprises, our customers can utilize our comprehensive, personalized and flexible technology and leverage our extensive ecosystem of innovation partners to achieve their business objectives. We are extremely pleased by IDC’s positioning of Siemens in the Leader category in their IDC MarketScape vendor assessment report and are committed to bringing more advanced solutions as we continue this relentless journey with our customers.”
